Hello Buchanan Families,  

Thank you to our School Council for hosting a wonderful pancake breakfast this morning. It was great to connect with our school community and enjoy time with all of you. The first school council meeting of the year will take place online on September 25, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. (more information below.)

Our school council has partnered with them for a school fundraiser. Your children were sent home with an order form. I have also attached it here:  Buchanan Coffee Fundraiser 

As a school we are continuing to work on building our school identity, as Buchanan Bears. Today we had a very fun first assembly of the year. Students were asked this week, ‘What does it mean to be a Buchanan Bear?’ Here are some of their answers:  

  • “We are Buchanan Bears and we work hard at school” - Grade 3 Student 
  • “To be good and have good behaviour” - Grade 4 Student 
  • “To be kind” - Grade 3  
  • “To be kind, respectful and responsible” - Grade 1 Student  
  • “To be friendly” - Grade 1 Student 
  • “To work hard and do your best.” - Grade 5 Student  
  • “To have courage” - Grade 4 Student  

Key Information  

  • You will receive a weekly communication from your child’s teacher, in which they will update you on key pieces of information from their individual classrooms.  
  • School Breakfast Program: Monday to Thursday 8:25 a.m. -8:45 a.m. There is no breakfast program on Fridays. Students will be greeted at 8:25 a.m. at the front school door (Centre Street entrance) and at 8:45 a.m. breakfast program students go outside, where there will be teacher supervision.   
  • Student supervision begins at 8:45 a.m.  

Key Dates

  • Meet the teacher night will be Thursday, September 26, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. This will be a casual drop in format, not a parent-teacher conference. Come when you can and please bring your child/children with you. To our EES parents, your teachers will be in touch, as you will have 1-1 meetings with them during this time frame. 
  • Our school wide Terry Fox Run will be on September 19  
  • Orange Shirt Day will be honoured on September 26 - Students are asked to wear orange if they can.  
  • There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, September 27  
  • Our first FUN LUNCH will be on September 26. Orders must be placed by September 21. Visit Healthy Hunger.
  • Picture Day is on October the 8.
