Dear Buchanan Families

Thank you to our School Council and those families who joined us for our Halloween Dance. It was so much fun to see our students laughing and dancing together. There were some great costumes on display too!  I would also like to thank those parents and community members who supported our Grade 5 & 6 trip to Fish Creek Park this week. The students all had such a wonderful time and learned so MUCH!

Halloween

Halloween: A reminder, although next Thursday is Halloween, it is still a day of teaching and learning. If a student chooses to wear a costume it must be school appropriate: 

  • no masks or facial coverings 
  • no weapons or violent/scary costumes 
  • no inflatable or cumbersome costumes 
  • costumes must be appropriate and not offensive 

Lunch Supervision Fees

The Calgary Board of Education provides students with the option to stay at school for lunch. Lunch Supervision is offered to all students in Grades 1- 6 for an annual fee. Students in these grades require direct supervision during the lunch hour, regardless of the grade configuration of the school or the mode of transportation the students use to get to and from school each day.  Please remember to register your child for lunch supervision program online using the MyCBE parent account. 

You can expect the following for your Lunch Supervision Fees: 

  • A safe and caring environment for students to eat lunch 
  • Supervision for the entire lunch period, unless the student is signed out by a parent/guardian 
  • Daily attendance will be taken 
  • Students must remain on school grounds, unless written permission has been provided to the school by a parent/guardian 
  • A dedicated space for eating 
  • Only students that have registered and paid the lunch supervision fee can access the service:  
  • CBE has a waiver process for families who may find it challenging to cover these costs 
  • Note | Use of service indicates that the Parent/Guardian accepts the terms and the responsibility to pay the annual fee 
  • Income tax receipts are issued for Lunch Supervision Fees that may be included as child care expenses for income tax purposes 
  • Lunch Supervision Fees are directed to providing lunchroom supervisors 

What lunch supervision service is not: 

  • Access to food or snacks; students are required to bring a lunch 
  • Access to hot water, microwave, dishes, utensils or other cooking facilities 

Field Trips

Attention Grade 5 and 6 parents/legal guardians.  Outdoor School is fast approaching.  Please login to MyCBE parent account to pay fees. Fees must be made prior to the fieldtrip. Contact the office if you have any questions. You can pay in person at the school with either credit card or debit.  

Casino: December 4 and 5

Winter Concert Update

The Winter Concert this year will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The concert will ONLY be for grades Kindergarten, 1, 2, & 3. The spring concert will be for our Grade 4, 5, 6 & EES students.
