Dear Buchanan Families
This week our grade 5 and 6 students enjoyed 3 days and 2 nights at Camp Chief Hector in Kananaskis. It was such a joy to see them return with smiles on their faces and stories to tell. They looked a little tired and so did their teachers. All signs of time well spent! We have many more field trips coming up this year. If you are interested in volunteering for these awesome experiences and don’t yet have your police clearance, please contact the office and we will help you.
Casino
We are almost THERE, but we have a few critical spots to fill. This casino will bring approximately 80,000 dollars directly to Buchanan School. These funds benefit your students in many ways. We need you! You do not need volunteer clearance to support this event. Perhaps you are not able to volunteer, but you know someone who is? I have asked my retired parents to help out! The remaining shifts are from 6:30 p.m - 3:30 a.m. OR 11:00 pm- 3:30 a.m. SIGN UP HERE - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094AA9A628A2FDCF8-52181013-buchanan#/
Instructional Time
The Buchanan School day ends at 3:30 p.m. Teacher instruction time goes to the 3:30 bell. With the snow and cold students require a few extra minutes to get bundled up for the end of the day.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
The conferences will take place Thursday, November 28 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, November 29 from 9:00 am- 12:00 p.m. The MyCBE conference booking system is open and will remain open until November 27 at 4:00 p.m. If you need help to book, please contact the office and we will help you.
Spirit of Generosity
I have heard from families in our school community, looking to share the spirit of generosity as we approach the winter holiday season. I also know that there are families in our school community who could greatly benefit from this support.
If you are interested in helping a family in need, we will be accepting grocery gift card donations (Superstore/ Walmart). These cards will go directly to Buchanan families, so they may purchase gifts or food for their families this holiday season. Feel free to drop them off at the school at a time that is convenient for you.
School Fundraising Opportunities
Purdy’s Holiday Chocolate Campaign: LAST CHANCE- Throughout November we invite parents, guardians and friends to order their holiday treats to support Buchanan! Orders must be in by November 30 https://fundraising.purdys.com/join.aspx/1971091-118523
Once you click the link, register your email, click join a campaign and start shopping. If prompted for a customer number, we are 76343. The last day to order will be November 30th and the classroom with the most orders will win a cupcake party! Orders will be made available to students and families on December 12th.
School Council
There will be no meeting in December
Scholastic Book Fair
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers.
Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place at our learning commons from Dec 2 – Dec 6 (during school day), a quick reminder to send money with your kids so they can be able to purchase their preferred books. Also, parents are welcome to the fair on Dec 5 from 5 pm. All purchases benefit our school and earn Scholastic Dollars that can be redeemed for books and educational resources for our classrooms and school library.
Shoe Boxes
Our Grade 4 students will be working on an exciting Social Studies project that involves creating dioramas to explore and represent natural regions of Alberta. To bring their ideas to life, Ms. Temi is collecting empty shoe boxes to use as the base for these dioramas. If you have a spare shoe box, please send it in. Thank you!
