Dear Buchanan Families   

Time flies, when you are having FUN learning. I am so proud of our student community. This week students in grade 3 and 4 worked hard to prepare for a beautiful Remembrance Day assembly that the school participated in today.  

School Conferences are fast approaching. This will be an opportunity to come into the school to meet with your student’s teacher(s) and connect about their learning progress. The conferences will take place Thursday, November 28 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, November 29 from 9:00 am- 12:00 p.m.  The conference booking system (MyCBE) will open for parents and guardians to book on November 21 at 9:00 a.m. and will remain open until the 27 at 4:00 p.m. If you need help to book, please contact the office and we will help you. 

Important Update | Breakfast Program  

Effective, Nov. 21, 2024, Buchanan School will no longer have a morning breakfast program. There will be no morning program offered. However, should students require breakfast, we will always have grab & go items available. Outside supervision of students begins each day at 8:45 a.m. If you have questions or concerns about this, please contact me directly at rcphillips@cbe.ab.ca I am happy to connect with you. 

School Fundraising Opportunities  

Purdy’s Holiday Chocolate Campaign: Throughout November we invite parents, guardians and friends to order their holiday treats to support Buchanan! https://fundraising.purdys.com/join.aspx/1971091-118523 

Once you click the link, register your email, click join a campaign and start shopping.  If prompted for a customer number, we are 76343.  The last day to order will be November 30 and the classroom with the most orders will win a cupcake party! Orders will be made available to students and families on December 12. 

Casino: December 4 and 5 - We will be looking to fill a large roster of volunteers, to support shifts at our casino fundraiser. These events bring 10s of thousands of dollars to our school. School Council Meeting: November 20 at 6:30 p.m at Buchanan School 

Dress for the Weather: The temperatures, although unpredictable, are getting colder. Please make sure your student has warm winter wear for recess times and outdoor learning opportunities.  

Book Fair:  Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. 

Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place at our learning commons from Dec 2 – Dec 6 (during school day), a quick reminder to send money with your kids so they can be able to purchase their preferred books. Also, parents are welcome to the fair on Dec 5 from 5 pm. All purchases benefit our school and earn Scholastic Dollars that can be redeemed for books and educational resources for our classrooms and school library.
