Hello Families,  

Our kindergarten to Grade 3 Winter Concert was a snowy success! The children sang beautifully, and all felt proud!  

Many thanks to those parents and community members who supported our casino on December 4 and 5. Without this help, we would not be able to secure thousands of dollars for our school.  

Alien Inline Skating Residency  

Next week we begin our 2-week inline skating residency. We ask, if possible, that students bring their own helmets and remind all students to wear socks. Students without socks will not be permitted to participate.  

On days where it has been wet outside, we recommend that students bring an extra pair of dry socks to help keep the equipment dry and for the student’s personal comfort.  

  • Acceptable helmets include: bicycle helmets, hockey helmets (no cage), skateboard helmets, ski/snowboard helmets. 
  • The following helmets are not appropriate for inline skating: BMX helmets, baseball helmets, football helmets, equestrian helmets, motorcycle helmets, any helmet with no chin strap, any helmet missing its outer plastic shell.

School Development Plan 

Our School Development Goal is focused on improving student achievement in literacy, with a strong emphasis on their written communication skills. We are assessing students regularly and are already noting improvement across all grades. We are also working to include more culturally relevant texts and teaching practices, so the students can all see themselves reflected in the learning they do at school. Please visit Our School page to view the report.

Spirit of Generosity  

Thank you to those families who have shared the spirit of generosity with us so far this season. These donations will go directly to families in our immediate school community.  

If you are interested in helping a family in need, we will be accepting grocery gift card donations (Superstore/ Walmart). These cards will go directly to Buchanan families, so they may purchase gifts or food for their families this holiday season. Feel free to drop them off at the school at a time that is convenient for you. 

Community News  

Highland Church is having a Christmas Carnival on Sunday, December 15th, from 10:30 to 12:30. 

There will be a puppet show, carol singing, lots of Christmas cookies, crafts, games, giveaways, and a Christmas market! Anyone from Buchanan school is welcome to join us for the fun morning. See flyer if your are interested: Christmas Carnival
